Food delivery app development in Pakistan means building four connected products: a customer ordering app, a restaurant or kitchen app, a rider app with live GPS, and an admin panel. We build all four for single restaurants, chains and Foodpanda-like aggregators, with delivery zones, COD cash control and wallet payments designed for how Pakistanis actually order.

Key takeaways

  • Decide first: your own restaurant ordering app, or a multi-restaurant aggregator. The scope differs by months.
  • Rider tracking and maps are the costliest moving parts; Google Maps now bills after free monthly caps per API.
  • Cash collected by riders needs daily reconciliation built into the admin, or it leaks.
  • Launch in one area such as DHA or Gulberg, prove delivery times, then expand zone by zone.

What a food delivery app is and who needs one

There are two very different products behind the phrase "Foodpanda-like app", and mixing them up is the most common budgeting mistake we see.

A restaurant ordering app suits chains with loyal customers in Lahore, Karachi or Islamabad who already order directly by phone or WhatsApp. An aggregator suits founders targeting a city or segment the big platforms serve poorly, such as a smaller city, home chefs, or office lunch delivery.

Restaurants that are not ready for an app usually get faster returns from a strong Google listing and direct WhatsApp orders; see our Google Maps SEO for restaurants and wider restaurant marketing services.

What's included: the four apps

Customer app

Menu with add-ons and deals, cart, address pin with landmark notes, COD or wallet checkout, live order and rider tracking, reorder, ratings.

Restaurant / kitchen app

Tablet app that rings on new orders, accept or reject with prep time, mark items out of stock, print kitchen tickets.

Rider app

Job offers, pickup and drop navigation, background GPS, proof of delivery, cash collected log, earnings view.

Admin panel

Zones and delivery fees, restaurant onboarding, commissions, rider dispatch, promos, refunds and daily cash reports.

We usually build the three mobile apps in Flutter so one team maintains customer, kitchen and rider code together, with a Laravel or Node.js backend and real-time updates over WebSockets or Firebase. The menu and ordering logic shares a lot with our ecommerce app builds, but timing and dispatch make food delivery its own discipline.

Our process for building a delivery app

  1. Operations walk-through

We sit with your kitchen and dispatch staff, or your founding team, and time a real order from call to doorstep.

  2. Zone and pricing model

Define delivery zones, minimum order, delivery fee bands, rider pay per drop and commission logic before design starts.

  3. Design all four apps

Figma prototypes for customer, kitchen, rider and admin, with the rider app tested outdoors on a budget phone.

  4. Build the order loop first

Place, accept, assign, pick up, deliver, settle. Promos, loyalty and reviews come after the loop works end to end.

  5. Closed pilot

Two to four weeks in one area with staff and friendly customers, measuring prep and delivery times.

  6. Launch and scale

Store release, then zone-by-zone expansion with ads and push campaigns.

Pakistan-specific considerations for food delivery apps

Addresses are landmarks, not postcodes

"House 12, near Jalal Sons, Phase 5" is a normal address. We combine a map pin, a free-text landmark field and saved addresses, and let riders call the customer from inside the app without exposing personal numbers.

Maps cost real money at scale

Since March 2025, Google Maps Platform replaced its old monthly credit with free usage thresholds per SKU: 10,000 billable events a month for most Essentials APIs, 5,000 for Pro and 1,000 for Enterprise. Live tracking and route requests can pass those quickly, so we cache geocoding, throttle GPS updates and consider open map tiles where licensing allows.

Cash with riders

Many orders are still paid in cash. The rider app logs cash collected per order, and the admin produces an end-of-shift statement so the cashier knows exactly what each rider owes. Wallet payments reduce that load; see JazzCash and Easypaisa integration for merchant setup.

Peaks, power and phones

  • Iftar and sehri during Ramazan, Friday nights and cricket match evenings create sharp order spikes, so the backend is load-tested before launch.
  • Kitchen tablets should run on a UPS or battery during load-shedding, and the app must re-sync missed orders on reconnect.
  • Rider phones are often low-end Android handsets, so we keep background location efficient to protect battery life.
Do not clone a brand

We build similar functionality, but never copy another platform's name, logo, design or menu content. Apple's App Review Guidelines (section 4.1) reject copycat apps, and it creates legal risk you do not need.

Results and examples

We will add delivery-app case studies here once clients approve the figures. These are the metrics we track and report.

Placeholder: Add real case result: restaurant chain ordering app, share of orders moved from aggregators to direct app, average delivery time, timeframe
Placeholder: Add real case result: city aggregator pilot, restaurants onboarded, weekly orders and rider utilisation after launch

Once live, direct-order growth usually comes from push offers to past customers and click-to-WhatsApp ads for new areas.

Food delivery app pricing in Pakistan

A Pakistani market guide from IDT Pakistan places complex apps with real-time tracking, payments and multiple roles above PKR 5 million. A full aggregator fits there. A single-restaurant ordering app without its own rider fleet can sit much lower, in the medium band of PKR 800,000 to 2.5 million in the same guide.

Running costs matter as much as the build: servers, maps, SMS OTP and push. Our app development cost breakdown lists them, and the quick app cost FAQ gives the short version. Lahore restaurant groups can meet our app developers in Lahore, while Karachi chains can read about our Karachi app development service. Frequently asked questions

How much does food delivery app development cost?

Based on published Pakistani ranges, a full aggregator with customer, restaurant, rider and admin apps usually exceeds PKR 5 million. A single restaurant's ordering app without a rider fleet can fall in the PKR 800,000 to 2.5 million medium band. Budget monthly for servers, Google Maps usage beyond free caps, SMS OTP and maintenance.

How long does it take?

As a planning estimate, a restaurant ordering app takes about 3 to 4 months, and a full aggregator 6 to 9 months including a pilot. Building in phases lets you launch the customer and kitchen apps first while rider dispatch is completed. Store review and Google's 14-day closed testing for new personal accounts add time at the end.

What do you need from me to start?

Your menu with prices and add-ons, branch locations and delivery areas, how riders are employed and paid, current order volume by channel, and payment providers you use. Aggregator founders should bring their commission model and a list of target restaurants. We also need Google Play and Apple accounts in your company name.

Can riders use their own phones?

Yes. Most Pakistani delivery operations run on riders' own Android phones. We design the rider app to work on low-end devices, keep data use low and use battery-friendly location tracking. You should still set a minimum Android version and give riders a short in-app guide on permissions.
