Our Shopify store development in Pakistan covers theme design, product setup, payments, shipping and tracking for brands selling nationwide or abroad. The catch most guides skip: Shopify Payments is not available to Pakistani merchants, so checkout has to be built around COD, a local gateway app or an international processor. We plan that before design starts.
Key takeaways
- Shopify Payments does not support Pakistan, so every PK store needs a third-party gateway, manual methods or both.
- Shopify subscriptions and most apps are billed in USD to a card, so budget for exchange-rate movement.
- Shopify suits brands that want low maintenance; WooCommerce suits stores needing deep local customisation.
- We set up COD controls and courier workflows, because refused parcels are the hidden cost of Pakistani ecommerce.
What Shopify store development is and who needs it
Shopify is a hosted ecommerce platform: Shopify runs the servers, security and checkout, and you pay a monthly subscription. Development means choosing and customising a theme, building collections and product templates, configuring payments, shipping zones and taxes, installing the right apps, and connecting analytics and ad pixels so you can measure sales.
It fits Pakistani fashion, beauty, home decor and accessories brands that sell mostly through Instagram and Facebook and want a store their team can run without a developer on call. It also suits exporters and overseas Pakistanis selling to buyers in the UK, US or Gulf, where card payments are the norm. If you need heavy local customisation, such as custom COD scoring or a wholesale portal, our WordPress and WooCommerce builds are often the better base. Our broader ecommerce website development page compares the two.
When we advise against Shopify
A store with under 20 products, almost all COD orders and no plan to sell abroad may pay more in USD subscriptions and app fees than it gains. In that case a lean WooCommerce store, or even a well-run WhatsApp catalogue backed by click-to-WhatsApp ads, can be the more sensible first step.
What our Shopify development includes
| Area | What we set up |
|---|---|
| Theme | Premium or free theme customised, mobile-first product pages |
| Catalogue | Collections, variants (size, colour), bulk import from Excel |
| Payments | COD, bank transfer, approved local gateway app, card processor for exports |
| COD controls | Order confirmation flow, limits by value or city where apps allow |
| Shipping | Rates by city or weight, courier booking app |
| SEO | Clean handles, meta fields, collection copy, product schema check |
| Tracking | GA4, Meta Pixel and Conversions API, Google Merchant Center feed |
| Handover | Staff accounts, order workflow training, app and billing list |
We keep the app list short. Every Shopify app adds a monthly USD fee and some script weight, and stores with 25 apps installed often fail Google's Core Web Vitals on mobile. Before installing anything we ask whether the theme or Shopify's built-in settings can do the job.
Our process
- Payment and shipping plan
Before design, we confirm which gateway you can be approved for, how COD will be handled and which courier you use. This decides the checkout.
- Store structure
Collections, filters and navigation based on how your buyers browse and search.
- Theme design
Home, collection and product templates designed and approved on a development store.
- Product load
We import products from your sheet and check images, variants and prices.
- Test orders
Real test orders through every payment method, plus a COD order booked with your courier.
- Launch
Domain connected, pixels verified, Merchant Center feed submitted, and staff trained.
Shopify in Pakistan: payment limits and working alternatives
Shopify's own payment processor, Shopify Payments, is not offered to Pakistani merchants, which Shopify Community discussions confirm. That leaves three routes, and most stores use two of them together.
| Route | How it works | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Manual methods | COD and bank transfer set up as manual payments | Refused parcels; manual reconciliation |
| Local gateway app | Licensed aggregator (PayFast and others) via a Shopify app | Merchant approval time; confirm the app is live |
| International processor | Card processor for overseas buyers, e.g. 2Checkout/Verifone | Needs a business that qualifies; payout setup |
When a store uses a third-party gateway instead of Shopify Payments, Shopify adds its own transaction fee on top of the gateway's charge, and the rate depends on your plan. Check the current rate on Shopify's pricing page before choosing a plan, because a higher plan can work out cheaper at volume.
Other practical points
- Billing. Shopify and its apps charge a card in USD. You need a card that works for international online payments; the same issue affects ad spend, covered in our guide on paying for Facebook ads from Pakistan.
- Wallet payments. JazzCash and Easypaisa usually reach Shopify through an aggregator app, not a direct plugin. Our JazzCash and Easypaisa integration guide explains merchant approval, which takes the same documents either way.
- COD confirmation. Many PK brands confirm every COD order on WhatsApp before booking the parcel. We set this up with an order-confirmation app or a link into your lead and order management system.
- Currency. Sell in PKR for local buyers. If you also sell abroad, plan the currency and payout route before launch, not after.
Results and examples
We will add case studies here once clients approve the figures. Each one will show the starting point, what we changed and the measured result.
Launching a store is step one. Traffic usually comes from Meta ads for ecommerce, Google Shopping ads fed by the Merchant Center feed we set up, and ecommerce SEO on collection pages over time. Before you set an ad budget, our Facebook ads cost guide shows what Pakistani stores typically spend. Already running a store? A free website and ads audit checks speed, tracking and checkout.
Shopify store development pricing in Pakistan
Our Shopify projects sit in the Scale tier on the website development price page, with scope listed. As a market benchmark, ePlanet Technologies publishes ecommerce builds with Pakistani gateways from about PKR 100,000 to 500,000 and above, and GoDaddy's Pakistan cost guide puts advanced professional sites around PKR 100,000 to 350,000.
| Cost | Paid to | Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| Store build | Digital-Marketing.pk: [Add your PKR price] | One-time |
| Shopify plan | Shopify, in USD | Monthly or yearly |
| Premium theme | Theme developer, in USD | One-time |
| Apps | App developers, in USD | Monthly |
| Gateway and Shopify transaction fees | Gateway and Shopify | Per order |
| Domain | Registrar | Yearly |
As a rough planning approach, add twelve months of plan and app fees to the build price before comparing Shopify with WooCommerce. Need help in person? Our Lahore web development team works from Gulberg III. For every other build type, see our website development services.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Shopify store development cost?
Published Pakistani ecommerce build prices start around PKR 100,000 and can exceed PKR 500,000 for large catalogues and custom features. On top of the build, Shopify charges a monthly plan fee in USD, plus app subscriptions, a premium theme if you choose one, and per-order gateway and Shopify transaction fees. Compare first-year totals, not the build price alone, when weighing quotes.
How long does it take?
A Shopify store with a customised theme and up to about 100 products usually takes three to six weeks. The slowest parts are rarely design. They are merchant approval for a payment gateway, product photos and descriptions, and courier account setup. Starting the gateway application in the first week keeps launch on schedule.
What do you need from me to start?
Send your logo, brand colours, a product sheet with prices, variants and stock, product photos, and your shipping rates by city. For payments we need your business registration or NTN details, a business bank account and owner CNIC for the gateway application, plus courier account details. A card that works for USD payments is needed for Shopify billing.
